The Homeless Outreach Promoting Education meets a vital need in the Vancouver community by serving a wide array of needs of homeless families and school aged children. The program is designed to remove barriers for this population and to assist in the educational growth and development of the whole child, by meeting individual needs and provide choices and options for families. HOPE services are provided through Vancouver School District in collaboration with community partnerships and local shelters. We are funded primarily by the McKinney Vento Homeless Act and Title I.

Our goal is to remove barriers under Federal Law McKinney Vento. McKinney Vento assists students currently living in transition. Transition is defined as living in cars, hotels, camping, doubled up with friends or relatives, in shelters or transitional housing. Our program helps to ensure students are enrolled immediately, receive free and reduced school-supplieslunch, prepared with basic supplies, transportation to and from school of origin, are not segregated from any educational activities included sports and receive all services a permanent housed student receives. We remove any barriers. At the beginning of each school year with the help from donations and community partnerships we are able to provide backpacks with school supplies designated per grade for each of our qualifying students. This helps take a financial burden off of our families who are already struggling and may be in flight or fight mode.
